Report for YNTUC!
The theme of my brochure is “Passion and Attitude.” I can see that Young NTUC (YNTUC) is a youth group that really cares for its society. Thus, I created this brochure to reflect that Passion that YNTUC has. I also believe that with Passion comes an Attitude that needs to be heard. Thus, this brochure is for the purpose of letting YNTUC have their voices heard.
Folding techniques that I have used in the brochure is the simple 2PP, 4 sides folding. However, it has a twist to it. The front cover has a small flap that is cut out to urge the readers to actually tear the page apart, this will emphasize the bold message on the front cover of the brochure and the subsequent words that will be revealed after tearing. This will let the readers have a first hand experience with the brochure (apart from flipping) and have an indirect experience with YNTUC themselves. This technique, I believe will cause an impact to the readers as they will be shocked by the dramatic of tearing the brochure and will definitely remember, or even better, respond to YNTUC’s call for volunteers.
I have written much about Attitude earlier on in the first paragraph. And I believe that I made attitude apparent in the brochure by using colour and words.
Taglines such as,
“Don’t Help. Seriously.”
“Helpers are temporary, Volunteers are obligated.”
“Now you have no excuse.”
Proves to be direct, impactful and cutting words which will cause busy busy adults to stop and actually contemplate what youths have to say. This is what I want to achieve: for YNTUC’s passionate voice to be heard.
Colour choice, I chose contrasting colours to speak boldly and to capture attention. Using bright pink or yellow on Grey, shows a bold and daring attitude which in turn, reflects Passion in the speaker (YNTUC). Also, keeping the target audience in mind, the colours I chose and apply are not childish or too serious in any way.
Reflections
Murphy’s law: What can go wrong, will freaking go wrong!
In the beginning, everything’s alright. Concept, design… UNTIL PRODUCTION!
Colour is a major problem that caused me much stress. In the printing shop, I found out that the front page of my brochure, is not the colour that it is supposed to be, the grey turned into a dark green-ish colour. The printer explained that it was because of a colour leak, as my other half was a light green and that it cannot be helped.
Another problem I encountered with colour is the pink words on grey. Funny thing is, on screen it looks fine. On paper, I can hardly read anything! Lesson learnt: do not use hot pink on grey…
And then came the submission. I had backups, I had everything done. Just print, bind and submit. BUT THEN! My report got wiped out, and I have no idea how. By backup cannot open all of a sudden and I’m stuck. I have to redo everything! Causing me to be late for my submission for CD and report. Every submission causes me such headache and stress when it comes to production. Sometimes I think that the printer just HATES me.
I hate to be late for my submissions.
I hate to hate to be late.
I’m very very angry.
At myself? At the unnecessary-ness of it all? Maybe.
Research
Objectives of Young NTUC
To ensure continuity and dynamism, the labour movement must have a strong cohort of young members. Young NTUC was formed to attract younger members to our activities.
Younger Workers, Higher Aspirations
Every year, a steady stream of young workers with higher aspirations join the rat race. For NTUC to remain relevant and representative of our workforce, it is critical for NTUC and affiliated unions to continue attracting young workers as union members, to better understand and appreciate their needs, concerns and aspirations, and to be their voice.
With a base of about 120,000 young members, Young NTUC is the largest youth movement in Singapore. This allows us to reach out to younger people to share their ideas, views and concerns. So if you have some ideas on what you think you can do to impact your peers, then voice it out and let's see what we can do with it!
